Bayerisches Landesamt für Pflege will be responsible for the state recognition of foreign nursing professions in Bavaria from 01.07.2023. The profession of nursing specialist is a regulated profession. This means: a recognition of professional qualification is absolutely necessary to work in this profession.

Requirements for the recognition process:

• You want to work in Bavaria.
• You have acquired a state or state-recognized professional qualification as a nurse in your country of origin.
• You can prove your training/professional qualification with a certificate of completion.
• You may practice the profession in your country of training without restriction.

What documents do I need to submit?

Waiver of in-depth equivalency testing:

The waiver of the in-depth equivalence test is only possible for degrees from outside EU member states/European Economic Area/Switzerland (third countries). A waiver can reduce the duration of processing. Also, somewhat lower costs, as fewer documents are necessary than for an in-depth equivalence check.

Please note: If you waive the in-depth equivalency exam, you must take the knowledge exam in any case. You will then not have the option to choose between knowledge test and adaptation course.

General information:

Bayerisches Landesamt für Pflege will review your application. You will then receive a letter or notice from us with the result. In it you will also find all the important information for the next steps.

If we cannot immediately consider your professional qualification as “equivalent”, you can compensate for this. Here you can choose between an adaptation course and a knowledge test/aptitude test.

Cost:

The process costs money. We charge you a fee between 40 and 70 euros.

In addition, there are costs for translations and possibly for certifications. If you have to take a compensatory measure, there will be additional costs for adaptation course/knowledge test/aptitude test and, if necessary, a preparatory course. Further costs arise if you have to repeat the compensation measure.
